I’m a Michelin star chef and I’ve found the best McDonald’s branch in the UK

A Michelin-star chef has claimed to have found the top McDonald’s branch in the UK.

Gareth Ward is the owner of Ynyshir Restaurant with Rooms, which scooped the UK’s Best restaurant prize at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards last summer.

Earlier this year, the chef was asked by Wales Online about his favourite places to eat out.

After naming two local restaurants, Gareth then sang the praises of a McDonald’s branch in the Enterprise Park industrial estate in Welshpool, Powys.

The award-winning chef said: ‘Welshpool McDonald’s is on a different level. It’s just got different [elements] to everyone else. It’s just absolutely smashing it.

‘Last time I had a crispy chicken and it definitely had [something like] truffle mayonnaise on it. I don’t think it did, but it tasted like it did!

‘Everybody I speak to says this is, by far, the best McDonald’s in the world. Welshpool McDonald’s, that’s what it’s all about.’ 

Built in May 2021, the fairly new restaurant is spread over two stories and boasts a sleek, modern interior and exterior. 

What’s more, Gareth isn’t the only who has been left impressed by his recent visits to the branch. 

The Drive-Thru – which also lets customers dine in – boasts hundreds of glowing reviews online too.

One gushed on Google Reviews: ‘Fast and efficient service and quiet as the kitchen isn’t in view. The food was good quality. One of the best McDonald’s in the UK.’

Another added: ‘I visited here with my partner and three young children late one eve on way back from holiday. Kids were very tired. I just wanted to write how fantastic the staff are at this restaurant.

‘If passing again I will definitely be stopping again.’

Meanwhile, a third gushed: ‘Have to say that this particular McDonald’s was the best yet for staff politeness and service with a smile, and the food was hot and tasty.’ 

Last week, McDonald’s has added five new items to its menu– but customers will need to be quick because they’re available for a limited time only

Back by popular demand is the £4.49 Chicken Big Mac, which first debuted last year. 

The fast food joint also introduced a brand new Steakhouse Stack, the Mighty McMuffin, fan favourites Mozzarella Dippers, while the Cadbury Creme Egg and Cadbury Caramel Egg McFlurry have also returned. 

Foodies can now kick off their morning with the Mighty McMuffin which first arrived on menus in Christmas 2022. However the brand have decided it isn’t not just for Christmas, so it has returned for another three months. 

In addition to its new menu items, McDonald’s is also hiking prices of several customer favourites including its black and white coffee.
