The ODI series will be happening after the conclusion of the Asia Cup, which is supposed to finish on September 17.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah also confirmed the existing media rights may come to a conclusion by the end of August, and a fresh media rights deal will be applied. Hence, the ODI series may well kick off the new bilateral media rights cycle.
“The tender will be coming out soon. We’re planning to close the media rights process by August end,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by Inside Sport on Wednesday.
India to play Australia in ODI series
And the opponent for the ODI series is set to e Australia. The Aussies will thus play their second bilateral ODI series in India this year. They played a three-match ODI series in March and won the series 2-1.
It will be a massive preparatory test for both teams ahead of World Cup 2023, which starts from October 5.
The three-match ODI series is also set to be concluded between September 20 to September 27, as India play their first warm-up game on September 29 against England.
India are also set to kickstart their World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia. These two teams are set to meet on October 8 at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which will be the first match for both teams in the tournament.
India Australia ODI Series tentative Schedule
BCCI is yet to announce dates and venues of the ODI series, but tentatively the matches can take place between September 20 to September 26, or maximum by September 27.
The 1st ODI can be on September 20, followed by matches on September 23 and September 26. It looks increasingly likely that all of the bilateral matches will be played at venues which are not hosting World Cup matches.
This is because the Asia Cup commitments till September 17 only allow the series to start on September 20 at the earliest. And with the warm-ups starting from September 29, it curbs the window period of the ODI series to those six to seven days between September 20 to 27.
