India vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: Disappointing, but many things to learn, says Hardik Pandya | Cricket News – Times of India

India’s stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya voiced his dismay at the batting performance of his team as the West Indies successfully chased down a modest target of 182 to win by six wickets in Barbados and level the three-match series at 1-1.

Rohit Sharma, who is India’s designated skipper, rested himself alongside Virat Kohli to gauge the youngsters ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup.

During the post-match presentation, Pandya expressed his disappointment with the way the batsmen approached their innings, conceding wickets easily and failing to adhere to the intended game plan.

“We didn’t bat the way we were supposed to. The wicket was better than it was in the first game. Everyone barring Shubman Gill hit (towards the) fielders and got out. Disappointing, but there are many things to learn. The way our openers batted, especially Ishan (Kishan) who struck it well, it is good for India. Shardul (Thakur) got us back in with his bowling. (Shai) Hope and (Keacy) Carty batted well and got them through,” said Pandya.
India were bundled out for 181 in 40.5 overs, with Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd claiming three wickets each to put India under pressure.

Windies skipper Hope then led from the front in the run-chase with an unbeaten 63 , well supported by Carty, who contributed 48 not out.
“To be honest, you want to be going 1-1 to the third game, as it’ll be more challenging and exciting,” Pandya added.

Talking about his own match-fitness, especially when it comes to bowling, Pandya suggested that he’s not in a hurry and hopes to hit the peak closer to the World Cup.
“(My) body is fine. I have to bowl more overs and get my workload up for the World Cup. I’m a turtle right now, not the rabbit, and hoping everything goes right as the World Cup comes on,” the all-rounder said.
