Australian Influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews has caused a stir online after posting a shirtless photo of her young son.

The Byron Bay-based mother-of-three shared a photo to her Instagram of her four-year-old son Mars posing shirtless in low-hanging pants to promote a cap by fashion brand Robey.

After receiving backlash from her followers over the photo labelled “exploitative”, the 27-year-old defended herself by sharing a video on her social media.

She maintained there was “nothing wrong” with the photo and called her haters “overly sensitive”.

Matthews also shared a screenshot of a conversation with another Instagram user.

“What the actual f*** is going through your mind to think this is ok,” the user asked.

“A day wouldn’t be a day if I didn’t ruffle some feathers. I want to make something obvious”, the influencer shared.

“Mars poses like this on his own complete accord. He loves being in front of the camera and was happy participating.”

Matthews said she doesn’t believe a little boy not wearing a shirt is an issue.

“If you are sexualising my child or thinking of this image in that way, it is you who has the issue, or maybe you’ve become so soft, and the line has become so blurred that you can’t appreciate the natural human form and some f***ing great photography.”

She concluded by saying that as someone who had been sexually assaulted, she’s very aware of what she puts on the internet.

“Please save energy for children that need to be protected and stood up for; my son is wearing loose jeans (his but crack is always out, or he is running around nude).”

The So Dramatic! Communi-TEA Facebook group also tuned in to the conversation, leaving fans divided.

“Thoughts on Ruby Tuesday’s new ‘campaign shoot’ to sell a goddamn hat?” one group member asked.

“It is disgusting. The way she posed that boy is extremely concerning,” another replied.

Others shared the same sentiment, with one commenting: “…this is beyond vile.”

The photo has since been deleted, and Matthews has turned comments off on her recent post.

This hasn’t stopped fans from having their say, using other posts to share their thoughts.

“If you believe in your heart that you have done nothing wrong, why turn the comments off?” one asked.

“She’s probably beyond sick of having to defend herself from strangers on the internet about a decision she is ok with for her family,” another replied.
