Today, the most awaited AMAN property -opened in August 2, 2022- shines magically at the corner of 57th Street and 5th avenue, right at the edge of the Billionaire’s row in Midtown. Ideally located, just two blocks South from Central Park, facing Bergdorf Goodman and a few steps from the MOMA, Rockfeller Center and Radio City Hall, Aman New York occupies the historic 1921 Beaux-Arts Crown Building which was the first high-rise building constructed in Manhattan. Originally called the Heckscher Building, the tower was constructed by philanthropist August Heckscher and designed by Warren and Wetmore. The most successful and prolific architectural practice in America during the first three decades of the twentieth century was known for celebrated Grand Central Terminal and for having produced more than three hundred projects which have influenced the architectural tastes of America’s Gilded Age until the Great Depression.

That’s the extraordinary setting of Aman New York. Cut from the rest of the world, the property invites to an incredible luxury journey without artifice. How would you describe Aman New York in a few words? “The hotel, Aman Club and Aman Branded Residences bring an entirely new proposition to Manhattan. Generous amenities and the unparalleled Aman service deliver a guest experience like no other” answered Vladislav Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman. Aman New York is an urban sanctuary. In the city that never sleeps, not a sound to be heard in the property.

Aman New York is a haven of tranquility and offers a juxtaposition of many contrasts: old and new, East and West, natural and manmade, and even fire and water. Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston Architects and Aman brand have totally respected the Crown Building’s storied heritage. The property is located between floors 7 and 14 and offers 83 suites, Italian Arva and Japanese Nama restaurants, The Lounge Bar, The Garden Terrace open year around, a 2,300-square meter spa, a Jazz Club and 22 branded residences on the upper level.

Once you pass the imposing doors on 57th street, you are immersed into a breathtaking world of design and art. Right behind the arrival desk sits a monumental recycled cardboard artwork by Brazilian artist Domingos Totora. Then, on the 14th floor, there is a stunning 10 meter wall composition “mirroring garden” by Tuscan artist Federico Gori. The modular copper installation presents Mediterranean herb celebration culinary culture and plant heritage. The giant bamboo and paper dreamlike sculpture imagined by Peter Gentenaar are suspended in the air in the 14th floor atrium. Artworks are exclusively commissioned for the property, reflecting its soul. Aman New York is imbued with the inimitable spirit of Aman.

Each space has been thoughtfully curated to provide guests an unparalleled luxury experience. The urban property is a triumph of design and architecture. The Materials- oak and walnut wood, bronze and stainless and blackened steel, Belgian Blue and Chocolate Brown marble, natural stones, straw marquetry and Ikebana flower arrangements literally bring nature inside and invite to meditation.

THE SUITES

From the large window suites, you will never think you are in the heart of the busy midtown. It is as if you were floating above 57th street as the hotel is totally immersed in its surroundings. The suites are extremely cosy. They offer a flexible layout with pivoting louvre-doors inspired by Aman properties in southwest Asia.

The bathroom is oversized and offers oval bathtub and marble rain shower. Of course, the Aman products are refined. As everything Aman does. Luxury means sobriety. And there is a fireplace in each suite and also in every corner of the property and also by the immense heated pool. The design is airy and the color palette of the furniture from beige and cream to brown is an ode to tranquility.

Facing the bed, on the wall sits a large-scale art mural inspired by the 15th-century masterpiece Pine Trees (Shōrin-zu byōbu) by artist Hasegawa Tōhaku.

Arva and Nama are currently open to guests and Aman Club Founders only.

ARVA

“Amanjunkies” around the world know the concept very well. Arva is Aman’s tribute to the conviviality and warmth of traditional Italian family dining. The restaurant pays homage to Italy’s rustic, cucina del raccolto tradition, meaning “harvest cuisine”.

In a convivial and light filled decor, with banquettes, screens and green plants organized around the central open kitchen, Executive Chef Dario Ossola proposes sustainable and fine seasonal ingredients which are sourced locally thanks to partnerships with Grow NYC or Our Harvest. Together they represent over 750 farmers and manage at least a hundred farmers’ markets in and around New York City. Like in Tokyo, Venice and Thailand, lunch and dinner at Arva offer antipasti, fresh homemade pasta, green vegetables and main courses.

NAMA

The most exquisite and exclusive Japanese restaurant in town. Only open for dinners, Nama celebrates Washoku cuisine- Japan’s culinary tradition recognized by Unesco as an intangible Cultural Heritage- with the finest seasonal ingredients available locally. Guests are invited to explore the “omakase” concept leaving it up to the Chef, Takuma Yonemaru. All the dishes from nigiri or sashimi, to miso black cod and lobster are excellent. Save some room for the irresistible Macha tiramisu. Dinner at Nama is definitely a unique gastronomic experience in a contemplative warm and wooden decor with ceilings and chandeliers inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Aman New York is imbued with the inimitable spirit of Aman. Aman knows how to redefine the true meaning of luxury. Vladislav Doronin pointed out time is luxury. For a man who is constantly travelling, having time to be still, to be present, is the biggest luxury. Aman group will open two other properties in Miami and Los Angeles in the coming years. Looking forward to it .
