Inside the colourful wonderland of a local skin fairy

Amber Jasper’s home stands out from the crowd. What was once a diamond in the rough, is now a renovated family home in a wonderland of colour and styles.

“We bought the home 12 years ago for the block size and never intended to live here,” laughs Amber Jasper, owner of Sculpt and Skin clinic in Subiaco.

“My husband Tane is from rural New Zealand and I’m from Cunderdin in the Wheatbelt, so we buy homes that are on a big block.”

The couple meticulously renovated every inch of the home, turning the property into a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with a pool, sauna, and cabana.

“We sold our other properties to do this renovation. We always buy within our means and complete the renovation ourselves, as Tane is a builder, so he did all the labour,” explains Jasper.

“We lived on site while renovating. My youngest child Oak was two, Mealamu was four and Kenzo six and it was a camping and building site. We’ll never do that again.”

What was ordinary is now extraordinary, with striking design features and landscaping. At the front, arched hedging and a pink barbecue area, featuring five different styles of pink tiles, welcome guests on arrival.

“We never get ahead of ourselves and only complete a room when we have enough money for it, so this renovation took four years. The last area we completed was the front pink barbeque area, which I absolutely love,” she says.

“It’s like a holiday. No matter what happens during the day, as soon as I get home and walk up the pink checked stairs and through the hedge arch, I’m home.”

Inside is an explosion of vibrant hues and bold contrasts. Walls are adorned with artwork by Jai Vasicek and a variety of large-scale pieces from Empire Home.

“I love Jai Vasicek and have so many of his pieces from Fenton and Fenton. Every time I style a wedding, which I do during wedding season, I treat myself to one of his pieces,” she explains.

Every room of the house tells a story with design features that draw inspiration from various design styles and eras.

The master bedroom embraces the essence of a luxury Greek Island, with pristine white tiles and an open bathroom, while the main dining room is a captivating Moroccan style.

“I run multiple businesses, so when I’m home, I want to feel like I’m on a holiday. Tane made the round dining table and my Moroccan dining chairs are from Empire. The large wooden dining table was the first piece of furniture I ever had – never forget where you started,” she explains.

Plants adorn every surface, from cascading vines to towering fiddle leaf figs.

“If you removed all the plants, the spaces would feel a lot different. Plants turn a basic space into something special and it adds to that feel of a relaxing retreat or holiday,” she says.
