In the ongoing season as well, the defending champions became the first team to qualify for the play-offs after beating SRH by 34 runs in the match. Much of the team’s success has been credited to Hardik and Nehra have been credited and praised for creating the correct team environment.
However, Nehra looked unimpressed on a couple of occasions during the GT versus SRH match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. The former pacer first refused to celebrate opener Shubman Gill’s hundred.
As the members in GT dugout stood up and applauded Gill for his 56-ball hundred, Nehra remained seated and looked away in a different direction. The episode even left commentators Aakash Chopra and Saba Karim baffled. They reckoned that Nehra probably expected more from the team and hence did not celebrate the ton.

Later during the innings break, Nehra and Hardik were seen chatting alongside the boundary rope with the former fuming in anger. Notably, Gujarat lost eight wickets for 57 runs between overs 13 to 20. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked four wickets in the final over to finish with figures of 5/30 in four overs.

GT were cruising at 147.1 in 14.1 overs and Nehra must have expected the team to cross the 200-run mark. Big targets have been chased down in the IPL 2023. In fact, GT had failed to defend 205 at the same venue against KKR.
The side had posted 227/2 when Gill blasted 94 unbeaten runs in match 51 of the IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad. The batting collapse and the missed opportunity to post a high total triggered Nehra. GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki was later seen calming down Hardik.
GT defended the target by 34 runs later. SRH were reduced to 59/7 in nine overs before Heinrich Klaasen (64 off 44), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (27 off 26) and Mayank Markande (18* off 9) fought hard and took SRH past 150 to save the visitors from embarrassment.
