Jack is living his best life, travelling through Europe, visiting all the major landmarks and having his photo taken wherever he goes. Jack is a rescue dog and he’s traveling through Europe living with his loving owners in a campervan.

Jack’s upbringing wasn’t the happiest. The poor poodle-cross was living in a horrible kennel with no water with his one-eyed mother.

Jack’s new owners reported the sellers after he became ill and the illegal operation was uncovered. Jack was adopted by retired clinical animal behaviourist Julie Bedford.

Julie first encountered Jack at RSPCA’s Woodside Animal Centre in Leicester and was besotted by him, deciding to keep him.

That was in 2021 and since, Jack has been taking in the sites. Julie, Jack and her other dog, Tinkerbell have visited France, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.

The experience has included touring Buda Castle in Budapest and crossing the Millau Viaduct in France. Next, he’s off to Greece, Italy and Liechtenstein.

Julie, 62 from Gloucestershire said, “I’ve always loved travelling and have backpacked around South America, Asia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and the USA.

“But now I go with Jack and Tink, I always check ahead and make sure the places we’re going to visit are dog friendly, which is much easier in mainland Europe.”

She went on:  “On one of our trips last year, I took a photo of them on the border of Austria and Slovenia – there’s a post that marks the spot and a line running through the area. They’re side by side but Jack is in one country and Tink in the other.”

The three of them are travelling by camper van and living in close proximity has meant Jack has adapted quickly.

Julie says Jack was “withdrawn” at first but he’s slowly warmed to them. “For some reason, he was terrified of birds and used to have panic attacks if anything changed even slightly at home, for example, if a coat was hung somewhere different”.

Seeing the world has clearly had a positive effect on Jack. “He’s a completely different dog now. Travelling and taking part in agility classes have really boosted his confidence”.
