Jake Paul’s previous claim that he would train with Khabib Nurmagomedov has been quickly exposed by the Russian’s trainer who revealed no contact has been made.

Paul has vowed to make a successful career in MMA after making tremendous strides in the boxing ring by defeating the likes of Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren.

He claimed that he would train with Nurmagomedov’s trainer Javier Mendez and his charge at the AKA gym in San Jose, California.

“For sure I will,” Paul said in a media scrum in December. “People seem to forget that I was a state wrestler, division one in Ohio.

“I’m going to go and get coached up by Javier Mendez, Team Khabib and that’s that. They’re down, 100 per cent – I’ve got to go 10-0 or 12-0 in boxing first and then I’ll hit that MMA fight.”

Jake Paul made the bold claim last month

However Mendez has quickly moved to admit that Paul would require a vote to enter their gym amongst the existing athletes, but has praised the YouTube star for his recent work.

“It could happen but like anybody you know we have to go through all the coaches and all the fighters that are here and anybody that’s a famous athlete like him,” he told The Schmo.

“They will go through the routine that everybody does so he would have to get voted by everybody. First of all, he’s never asked. What he’s done is he’s marketed himself beautifully.

“I loved the plug he gave us, I think it was a fantastic plug and I think he’s a fantastic person. He in turn gave me a create return favour by talking about training with us.

“But the reality is no matter who you are, you have to go through the team to get consent to train with us. He hasn’t been given consent because he hasn’t asked, it’s not that he won’t I just know he hasn’t asked.

“If he does get denied, he won’t know who denied him cause we don’t say that.”

Mendez aided Nurmagomedov’s career throughout working in his corner to help him progress through a 29-0 undefeated career in the UFC.

Paul then later admitted he is planning to work with Mendez despite the coach now admitting he is yet to receive any formal offer.

The 25-year-old previously received an offer from promotion Professional Fighters League while Bellator president Scott Coker also reaching out to the new boxing star.

However he has since divided fans with his kicking technique after releasing a “first” video of his training where he was seen practicing leg strikes on a bag.

It also seems unlikely Paul will ever be welcomed in the UFC as his feud with president Dana White continues over fighter pay in the company.

However he has since made an offer to stage a one-off bout with UFC star Jorge Masvidal in a wager with White to improve financial reward for fighters in exchange for his boxing retirement.
