Joe Alwyn just made his first public appearance post–Taylor Swift breakup

William Bowery, a.k.a. Joe Alwyn, a.k.a. the man who inspired not one but five Taylor Swift albums (Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights), is still around following his split from the megastar, FYI. The famously private actor returned to the spotlight in the subtlest way humanly possible, showing up to a Cannes event for the brand Celine along with a bunch of other celebs. Sneaky!

The event, a dinner at Hotel Cap-du-Eden-Roc, marks Alwyn’s first public event since he and Swift called it quits, and so far there’s exactly one picture to prove he attended: the actor posing in front of the building, as captured on the brand’s Instagram Stories. He wears a baggy black silk set and a pink silk shirt, unbuttoned to reveal a white tank and gold chain. Also, sunglasses and perfectly ruffled bedhead. You can see the pic here.

In fairness, he’s really holding up his end of the breakup! Reports speculated that Joe Alwyn was “uncomfortable” with Swift’s level of fame and wants to lead a less public life, and he’s certainly doing that so far. He’s strenuously avoided the spotlight after the end of their six-year relationship (fair play, given that a certain faction of Swifties will make a mountain out of a molehill at any available opportunity), but I guess when you gotta go to Cannes, you gotta go to Cannes.

Tay, meanwhile, is still on tour and still dating the guy from The 1975. On May 20, she told the crowd at her show, “I kinda just feel like telling you, I don’t know, I’ve just never been this happy in my life—in all aspects of my life—ever before.” She continued, “I just want to thank you for being a part of that. I don’t know, it’s not just the tour. I just sort of feel like my life feels like it finally makes sense.” Hmm, what else? Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) drops July 7.
