Jorge Masvidal calls for Conor McGregor MMA fight

Jorge Masvidal has claimed he is going to “give everything to kill” Conor McGregor in his latest call-out for a UFC meeting.

Masvidal and McGregor have exchanged verbal jabs throughout their UFC careers but a mega-money fight has yet to materialise. The Irishman has not fought since last year but could be set to make a return at 170lbs, which could open the door to fresh fight talks.

Despite the switch, ‘Gamebred’ is confident that his rival would reject a fight proposal and is unwilling to wait for any lucrative opportunity. “He is false. He knows that I am a man who hits hard and that I come to kill. I do not come to hug in the cage,” Masvidal told ESPN Deportes. “I am going to give everything inside me to kill him. I have a little size but he is still a little boy.

“I would love to fight at 170 pounds, but I don’t wait for anyone. If he wants to do it, I’ll break his face. If he doesn’t want to do it, let someone come next. There are options, but the first thing that matters is me – to be in the best condition of my life, to improve the fight. This year, I’ll guaranteed return. I don’t know the date yet. I think that with two fights, I can be in contention for the title or in a title contender fight.”

Masvidal has yet to compete in the octagon since his UFC 272 defeat to Colby Covington earlier this year. The 37-year-old will first be looking to revive his own title ambitions at 170lbs before entertaining any shot at McGregor, who is also eyeing a shot at the belt to become three-weight champion.

Their recent feud was rekindled after McGregor hit out at Masvidal last year following his withdrawal from a signed bout against Leon Edwards due to injury. The welterweight hit back branding McGregor a “midget”, but later re-opened the door to a fight with the “jacked” superstar.

Masvidal’s agent Malik Kawa later claimed that fight offers have been made to McGregor in the past but have fallen on deaf ears. “Every time he’s ever tweeted, or anybody’s ever tweeted that name at us or Jorge, I do the following: I call [UFC executive] Hunter [Campbell], I say, ‘Hey Hunter, what’s good? You saw Conor?’” Kawa said last year on The MMA Hour. “[Hunter says], ‘Yeah, he doesn’t want that fight.’ OK, boom. Every single time. It never fails.

“I don’t know if that’s real, or not real, but I know that they said they’ve tried to make that fight a couple times – Conor will not take it. You’ve heard [UFC President] Dana [White], Jorge’s too big for him, and that’s the end of that story.”
