Jorge Masvidal insists a boxing fight with Jake Paul could still be made despite being tied down to a five-fight UFC contract.

Masvidal signed his lucrative deal with the UFC last month which made him one of the highest-paid fighters in the promotion. Whilst under contract with the UFC, fighters are unable to compete in other promotions which has put a fight against Paul in doubt for Masvidal.

‘Gamebred’ admitted that whilst he is tied to his contract, a big money offer could pardon him from the small print of the deal and allow a crossover fight with Paul. “We’re locked up until it makes sense to them [the UFC],” Masvidal said on ‘ Impaulsive ‘.

“If they said ‘this fight’s gonna generate us x dollars, we’ll put a fee on it’. Contracts across the board are all different, but my one I signed is a fight-five contract, I love money, if it made me a ton of money, why the f*** not?

“No matter what I feel like the chips are stacked on my side, because he’s been in this game for like five or six years whereas I’ve been doing it since I was a kid So even though it’s not what I have my f***ing PhD in, it’s still a form of combat that I have way more time than him. Big money and I would bet on myself that I win that fight.”

Masvidal is currently on a three-fight losing streak in the UFC, being outpointed by former teammate turned bitter rival Colby Covington last month having lost back-to-back fights against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman before that.

The 37-year-old MMA veteran, who trained with Paul last year, admitted that he was impressed by his knockout win over Tyron Woodley last December. Masvidal praised Paul for being able to fight through adversity after being hit with big shots from Woodley.

“The best thing that I saw from him is that he got cracked numerous times in his last fight and I think he even suffered a little headbutt,” he added. “I saw his face in that round where he was like ‘holy s***, it’s a f***ing real fight’. Eventually he came back and he started fighting harder and better.

“That’s the best thing I’ve seen about him so far, is that he’s actually had real adversity. Woodley caught him with two good shots and he kept his composure and fought through, so I definitely think he’s improved.”
