Julian Nagelsmann wants a ‘decisive say’ in Tottenham’s transfer business if he takes over at the club this summer.

Tottenham parted ways with interim boss Cristian Stellini on Monday night in the wake of Sunday’s humiliating 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend.

Club chairman Daniel Levy described the result as ‘devastating’ and ‘wholly unacceptable’ in confirming the Italian’s departure with Ryan Mason tasked with steering the club until the end of the season.

Spurs are now looking to name their third permanent manager in two years with former Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann one of the leading names in the frame.

The 35-year-old last week withdrew from the running to become the new Chelsea boss with reports in Germany claiming he is now giving serious consideration to taking the Spurs job.

The Independent report Levy would prefer to bring Nagelsmann in before the end of the season but his preference is to wait until the summer.

The report adds there is still ‘considerable work’ to be done in convincing him to join the club, with Nagelsmann eager to retain a key role in the club’s transfer dealings were he to head to north London.

Should Spurs fail to persuade him to join the club, it is reported Feyenoord’s Arne Slot will be viewed as their leading contender.

Tottenham’s immediate focus will be on keeping their top four hopes alive following Sunday’s thrashing at Newcastle.

Mason’s first game in charge will be against Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday.

Six points currently separate the two sides with Tottenham having played two games more than Erik ten Hag’s men.

‘I met with the Player Committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season,’ Levy’s statement on Stellini’s departure concluded.

‘We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support.’
