Kevin Feige Shuts Down Rumor The Russo Brothers Will Be Directing New Avengers Movies

0

Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel finally revealed what was fast becoming one of the worst kept secrets of the MCU future in that two new Avengers movies will form the final parts of The Multiverse Saga. After Disney filed trademarks for the titles of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, it seemed like all the confirmation needed about where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed and who its next big bad villain. However, despite Secret Wars now being confirmed, it appears that the long-standing belief that the Russo brothers would be returning to direct has now been shut down by Kevin Feige.

Speaking to Deadline after the Marvel panel, Feige confirmed that Marvel is looking to work with the Avengers: Endgame directors again, but not on either of the upcoming Avengers movies. With the Russos having previously expressed a desire to direct a Secret Wars movie, many fans had already made up their minds that this would be a given if and when the movie was announced, but now it seems that someone else will be taking on the mammoth task of bringing the multiverse spanning movie to screens.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Russos were quoted only in the past week saying how they would love to be part of a Secret Wars movie because it was one of their favorite story arcs, but there had been no conversations with Marvel at this time. They said at the time, “”It’s so funny because, to be clear, there are no conversations. No. We’re not [appearing at SDCC].We haven’t had conversations with those guys about anything that they’re up to because we’ve been intensely busy with our own schedule. We just always answer truthfully when we’re asked, ‘Would you work with them?’ ‘Of course we would, we adore them.’ ‘What would you like to do?’ ‘Secret Wars, it was our favorite series growing up.’ And then I think it always gets turned into a bigger story. But to be clear: there is no story.”

Secret Wars Will End The Multiverse Saga of the MCU

SDCC brought many announcements about the upcoming slate of Marvel movies coming in the next three years, but the biggest was without doubt he confirmation that Phase 6 of the MCU will end in November 2025 with Avengers: Secret Wars. While it will be some time before we discover the finer details about the movie, there will soon be plenty of theories spreading on social media.

After taking 11 years to tell the Infinity Saga, The Multiverse Saga will last just over 4 years from WandaVision through to Avengers: Secret Wars. While some fans have already called Marvel out for rushing through to Secret Wars, it should be noted that Phase 1 of the MCU took 4 years to complete and contained only six movies. Marvel Studios are now putting out up to four movies a year, as well as several TV series, meaning that when all is said and done, The Multiverse Saga will end up having around 20 movies and up to 20 TV shows linked to it, far surpassing the 23 movies of the Infinity Saga.
