The news will likely benefit London’s luxury shopping and tourist industries although some fear the move will only impact rich overseas tourists.
UK Hospitality CEO, Kate Nicholls OBE, tweeted: “While tax free shopping for overseas customers is a welcome step to attract overseas tourists, a far more immediately impactful step would be to reduce VAT for our domestic customers.
“Without such measures – thousands of businesses and many more jobs will be lost.”
Speaking on the budget’s impact on travel, Julia Lo Bue-Said of the Advantage Travel Partnership, told Express.co.uk: “We welcome news of the Chancellor’s bullish mini-budget today.
“Any measures that ease the financial strain on consumers, such as the energy freeze caps and tax cuts, is positive news for our industry as it will give consumers more disposable income.
