Knives have been getting gradually sharper ever since The Marvels was first announced, which was to be expected when Captain Marvel proved to be the single most polarizing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s 31 feature-length installments to date.

It’s time to buckle up for a wild ride if the trailer rumors prove to be true, even if the superhero genre as a whole is staring death in the face after the one blockbuster guaranteed to revive and resuscitate the flagging artform suffered a serious setback.

The Marvels trailer – and the reactions – prepare to take over your timeline

Having been delayed several times already, rumors abound that The Marvels is poised to unleash its first trailer tomorrow, and with it will come the inevitable deluge of hot takes, reaction videos, and general trolling that tends to follow Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers around wherever she goes.

Just because you know it’s happening doesn’t serve to make it any more palatable, but we’re curious to see if director Nia DaCosta has assembled footage strong enough to make it troll-proof, even though that’s a big ask given the bombardment the opener was subjected to.

El Muerto spiraling downward, and taking the entire superhero genre with it

The latest reboot of the DCU and the MCU’s diminishing critical and commercial returns have led many to believe the dying days of the superhero genre are almost upon us, and we wouldn’t even consider believing it unless something bad happened to El Muerto. Sadly, that day is upon us.

Bad Bunny basically admitted there’s no chance the Sony spin-off will make its January 2024 release date – which is hardly a revelation when it hasn’t even started shooting – but the longer it goes on without coming together, the greater the chances of it dissipating entirely will become.

Star Wars fans don’t want anything to do with the multiverse, which is fair enough

Having taken several leafs out of the MCU playbook, Star Wars supporters reacted with incredulity when it was suggested that maybe a multiverse of stories was an avenue worth taking.

To the shock of nobody, then, it was vociferously rejected and burned to the ground. There’s only so much Kathleen Kennedy can copy Kevin Feige’s homework before people start getting annoyed, and multiple realities would definitely be the easiest way to do it.

That’s all we’ve got for another day of Marvel news, but as always, we’ll be back tomorrow with some freshly-baked treats right out of the spandex-clad oven.
