Throughout his time in the spotlight, Liam Payne has had some pretty public relationships!
The One Direction singer has made headlines for his romances with Danielle Peazer, Sophia Smith and Cheryl Cole, among others, in the past. When it comes to his current relationship status, the “Strip That Down” singer was linked to Aliana Mawla in May 2022 after she shared photos of them cozying up together and holding hands.
At the time, a rep for Liam confirmed to J-14 that he and former fiancée Maya Henry had “split up.” Liam and Maya first sparked romance rumors in August 2018 but initially kept things out of the public eye. Eventually, the duo started showing off their relationship via social media, and news of their engagement broke in August 2020. At the time, Liam’s rep confirmed to Us Weekly that the singer had gotten down on one knee. But, almost one year later, Liam announced that they had split.
“I am indeed [single],” the singer shared on a June 2021 episode of “The Diary of a CEO” podcast.
“I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people. That annoys me. I’ve just not been very good at relationships,” Liam shared during the same podcast episode. “And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point. I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else.”
The X Factor alum went more in-depth about the breakup and explained that he “wasn’t giving a very good version” of himself.
“I can honestly say I feel better out of it,” he continued. “I didn’t feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. Just a corny way to say it was the best for us both.”
In the months that followed their split, Liam and Maya were spotted together on various occasions. In August 2021, the Daily Mail obtained photos of them holding hands while on a yacht in St. Tropez. A month later, they attended a London Fashion Week together. While they haven’t confirmed the status of their relationship, the two did share a kiss on the Ron’s Gone Wrong red carpet in October 2021. They also had matching Halloween costumes that same year and they cozied up for a photo on Maya’s Instagram in December 2021 before their breakup.
