Linda Nolan has posted a heartfelt tribute to Vince Hill following the announcement of his death earlier this weekend.

On Saturday, it was confirmed the Edelweiss singer had died, “peacefully at home” in Henley-on-Thames at the age of 89.

Following the news, Linda, 64, took to social media to tell her fans that she was “devastated” to hear the news of Vince’s death.

Tweeting a series of pictures to her 17,300 Twitter followers, the Irish singer wrote: “Absolutely devastating news for all of us.

“Vince was a huge supporter of us on his TV show during the 70s and remained a good friend of the family.”

She finished the heartfelt post by saying: “Sending love and condolences to his wonderful family.”

Nolan’s post comes after the official Twitter account for Vince announced that the singer had died on Saturday evening.

The statement read: “Sadly we have to share news none of us want to hear.

“We’re very sorry to have to tell you Vince has left us. He passed peacefully at his home.

“Vince create a musical legacy… His tunes will remain forever in our hearts. Here’s to you V… you bloody legend xxx.”

Fans have headed to Linda’s tribute to post their own messages of condolence to Vince’s friends and family.

One fan wrote: “A man with a voice like velvet. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

Another said: “RIP Vince. And thinking of his family at this sad time.”

A third Twitter user referenced the fact that the entertainment industry had lost another big name recently — New York crooner Tony Bennett.

The American musician, who was, “singing at his piano” just days before his death, died at the age of 96 on July 21.

The user wrote: “Losing two big names in just a few days is terrible. Firstly Tony Bennett now Vince. A black week for the entertainment industry. May they both Rest In Peace.”

As well as Linda, Les Dennis took to social media to lead the tributes for the 89-year-old star, who was best known for his cover of Edelweiss, a hit from the 1959 musical The Sound of Music.

Upon hearing the news, the 69-year-old tweeted: “Heard the news driving home tonight and cried. Did two summer seasons with Vince.

“He was brilliant on stage and more importantly he was a lovely man. Remember visiting him and Annie at their beautiful home in Henley. They welcomed Dustin and me and we had a lovely evening. RIP X”.

Radio DJ Tony Blackburn wrote: “So sorry to hear that singer Vince Hill passed away yesterday. We were in the same agency in the 60’s and he was a very nice guy. He had a great voice and his version of Edelweiss in 1967 was a big hit. R.I.P Vince.”
