Lionel Messi scored a brilliant left-footed stunner to put Argentina 1-0 up in their friendly tie against the Socceroos. The goal came within 79 seconds of the match, which is Messi’s quickest-ever goal in his career.

Messi received the ball from Enzo Fernandez after a mistake from Australian player Matthew Leckie. He beat one of their defenders with some crafty footwork, then curled one left-footer past Matt Ryan to give Los Albicelestes a 1-0 lead within 2 minutes of the game.

German Pezzella then added another goal in the second half to complete the scoring. Argentina will now face Indonesia in another friendly on Sunday (June 19) at the Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta.

The Argentine captain, who left PSG recently to join MLS outfit Inter Miami, had a tough time in China. He was detained at the Beijing airport for not having a valid passport and was held for around 30 minutes before being allowed to enter China.

The 35-year-old world-beater has had a fabulous time of late where he won the World Cup with his country last year in Qatar, while he also lifted the Ligue 1 trophy with PSG this season.
