Liverpool devise January transfer plan with board ‘in love’ with Arnaut Danjuma

Liverpool have decided they will explore the signing of a new wide player in the January transfer window as they look to sign cover for Africa Cup of Nations-bound Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Jurgen Klopp’s jet-heeled duo are set to head off after Boxing Day to join up with Senegal and Egypt respectively ahead of the tournament in Cameroon that gets underway in the new year.

Given that the pair could miss up to seven matches while away on international duty, Liverpool are keen to recruit some cover.

Roberto Firmino is only just starting his recovery from a “serious’ hamstring injury and the Reds will hope to have him back by then, ready to help fill the void.

Diogo Jota, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino will also be looking to stand up and be counted as Liverpool bid to keep their Premier League title charge alive.

According to Fabrizio Romano though, Liverpool are already drawing up plans to sign another winger with Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma one player of huge interest.

“I’m curious to see who that will be, for example, I’m told that Danjuma, of Villarreal, the former Bournemouth player is doing fantastic.

“They love this player in Liverpool but Villarreal have no intention of opening talks in January after keeping Unai Emery, they do not want to sell a key player.”

Danjuma was previously considered earlier this summer when Bournemouth were faced with the prospect of a sale.

The Dutchman had a tough time in the Premier League but really exploded into life in the Championship, firing 17 goals in 35 matches.

He has since taken to La Liga like a duck to water, scoring five times in 11 league outings as well as twice in the Champions League.

Liverpool have also been linked with a number of other wingers in recent times including Jeremy Doku of Rennes.

Donyell Malen was previously under consideration before he eventually joined Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer.
