Liverpool poised to lose target to Man City as Guardiola eyes Kyle Walker swap

Manchester City have joined the race to sign Benjamin Pavard. The Bayern Munich right-back is expected to depart this summer and Liverpool are reportedly the frontrunners to snap him up.

However, City are mounting their own offensive and with the Bavarian giants keen on signing Kyle Walker, a swap deal plus cash is an option on the table to make sure both sides get their targets. This is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports: “Manchester City have now Benjamin Pavard on top of their list as new right back.

“Pavard is Man City’s priority in case Kyle Walker will join Bayern, deal advanced on player side but not completed yet. Bayern and City will discuss about Walker and Pavard.”

SportBILD claim that Liverpool are already talking to Pavard’s agents but the Sky Blues may be about to hijack the deal. Liverpool are on the lookout for a more defensively-minded right back as Trent Alexandre-Arnold continues his development as a central midfielder.

Another full-back they have been linked with is Kyle Walker-Peters. The 26-year-old is looking to return to the Premier League this summer following Southampton’s relegation to the Premier League and could be available for just £30m.

Speaking about his ambitions to return to England’s top flight in a recent interview with the Southern Daily Echo: “It’s tough for me to say right now but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I want to be playing in the Premier League. I want to get an opportunity to represent my country again. That’s a really big goal of mine, so yeah, those are my personal goals.”

Joe Gomez has often been deployed at right-back when Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been available for selection but it is understood Jurgen Klopp wants to secure a more solid option. Young Calvin Ramsay is an exciting prospect in the position but at just 19 years old it is too early for him to step up and become a starter.

Klopp only played the Scotsman twice last year and has since shipped him out now on loan at Preston North End until the end of next season.
