Liverpool star Darwin Nunez worth £30m more than Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah

Ignoring the Norwegian’s £171m buy-out clause in his City contract which becomes active next summer, with another £150m clause that can be activated in 2025, CIES value the centre-forward at £210m currently. Liverpool however do not have a player even close to that amount.

The Reds’ highest-value player is actually Nunez who signed from Benfica, for a fee that could become a club record after add-ons, 12 months ago. CIES say the Uruguayan is worth £84.2m at the moment. The Reds paid £64m which will rise to £85m should a series of stipulations be met, with some of the clauses around goals scored and trophies won.

Nunez, 23, is well clear of Salah after 15-goal, four-assist debut campaign on Merseyside. That’s despite the Egyptian contributing 30 goals and 16 assists across all competitions in what was said to be a poorer season for the winger.

Liverpool’s next highest-ranked players are Cody Gakpo (£74.6m), new man Alexis Mac Allister (£67.1m), Ibrahima Konate (£61.7m) and Luis Diaz (£60m). Mo Salah is way down the list – lower than Alisson (£57.3m), Trent Alexander Arnold (£54m) and even the young Harvey Elliott (£53.8m).

Per CIES, Salah’s transfer value at present is £52.5m. The 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer of 2025 though and if he had a deal of three years or longer, his value would rise to £62.2m – putting him behind only Nunez, Gakpo and Mac Allister of his Liverpool team-mates.

The statistical model takes into account both age and time left on contract when estimating transfer values. As such the prolific Kane – despite Tottenham demanding £100m this summer – is valued at a mere £52.6m. The Spurs striker is out of contract in 12 months’ time when he will be available for free.

CIES say otherwise, with at least 36 months left on his contract, he would be worth £84.5m – which is far closer to the fee the north Londoners would want to reluctantly let their captain leave now. There is actually two players on the list who would blow even Haaland out of the water if they had longer contracts.

They are Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, whose current deals both expire in the summer of 2024. CIES say once Vinicius pens a new agreement at the Bernabeu he’ll be worth an insane £270.1m with Mbappe, if he was on a long-term deal, a bit lower at £224.2m.

The only other Liverpool player in the top 100 is Diogo Jota, who is valued at £51m. There is no room on the list for Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson or Fabinho despite their contributions in recent seasons.

Joining Haaland and second-place Vinicius in the top 10 include Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Real Madrid new boy Jude Bellingham who was previously a major midfield target for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has since moved on to alternative options in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone, Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga.
