In conjunction with the 20th Anniversary celebration of its Tambour timepiece, Louis Vuitton just recently opened its 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries exhibit in New York City that is open to the public through December 31, 2022. Additionally, it has established an exhibition celebrating the history of the Tambour at Jewel Court, South Coast Plaza, CA, that is open to the public until November 10, 2022.

The New York City 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries exhibit marks the final stop of a global journey that celebrates both Louis Vuitton’s rich history (especially its legendary status with luggage and trunk making), and the genius that was Louis Vuitton. It also is a grand way to showcase Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with hundreds of creative minds. On display at the iconic Barneys New York building, the exhibit spans four floors with trunks created by a host of talented friends of the brand who personalized the famed travel trunks. Among those involved: Gloria Steinem, Pat McGrath, Willo Perron, Francesca Sorrenti, and hundreds of others.

To create excitement, the brand has bult a giant Monsieur Louis robot made of digital stacked trunks, and a host of other futuristic concepts. Each artist or creative friend has put his or her own spin on culture, history and individuality on their trunks.

There is even a room for visitors to watch interviews with the various Visionaries while sitting on poplar-like benches. The original Louis Vuitton trunks were made of poplar. Upstairs there is an area dedicated to French pilot Franky Zapata that features flying trunks (projected on the walls). The third floor is meant to be a dram scape, while the basement is dedicated to the creative roots of “The Residency.”

The exhibit wouldn’t be complete without a gift store filled with Louis Vuitton small leather goods, accessories and collectibles recalling the adventurous undertaking. The 9th floor of the building boasts a Freds x Louis restaurant. The entire exhibit is meant to be a total immersive experience – delving into the minds and ideas of 200 visionaries who created their own trunks.

The California Louis Vuitton Tambour exhibit celebrating 20 years of the Tambour at South Coast Plaza is an immersive experience that walks guests through the original drum-shaped Tambour watch and ensuing evolutions of it. It also demonstrates Louis Vuitton’s commitment to watchmaking. In addition to an interactive timeline, a specially curated collection is on display at this capsule exhibition – only until November 10, 2022.
