Man City considering ‘ripping up’ Haaland contract ahead of Man Utd

Manchester City are considering whether to rip up Erling Haaland’s current contract and give him a new deal ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United. The Norway international only joined from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer. And he’s scored 14 goals across all competitions in the time since, more than any other player in the top flight.

City signed Haaland back in the summer having given up on landing Harry Kane, who had been their top transfer target 12 months ago.

And the Norway international has taken the Etihad Stadium by storm in the time since, netting 14 goals across all competitions.

A huge 11 of those have come from six Premier League outings, meaning Haaland is on course to break plenty of goalscoring records this season.

Now, according to the Daily Star, City are considering ‘ripping up’ Haaland’s existing deal and giving him a new contract that would include a pay rise.

And Haaland will be hoping to continue his sensational form when Pep Guardiola’s team face fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

City go into the game unbeaten, having won five of their seven league games so far.

They’ve netted 23 goals and conceded just six, with United claiming victories in four of their own six games so far.

Meanwhile, Haaland has opened up ahead of the showdown with United and admitted he’s yet to speak to his father Alfie about the fixture.

“It’s another game, but I also know that derby games are so much more intense.

“These games mean everything to the fans. It is the first time I have played in the Manchester derby after watching so many on TV with my father and I cannot wait. It will be a special moment for me.”

And he added: “Of course, it would be special to score against United, but it would also be special to score against Copenhagen on Wednesday and Southampton next weekend.

“My focus is on every game because if I am scoring goals and playing well it means it is going to help the team achieve our aims this season.

“My welcome has been amazing. Manchester is an incredible city with people who love football.

“The fans and the players, staff and coaches at the club have been great and they have made me feel so at home here.”

He continued: “We know it is going to be a tough game.

“Anything is possible in a derby game and we are all going to have to be at our best to get anything from this game.

“What I have always known and am now experiencing is that in the Premier League every game is tough.

“You have to be at your best and if you aren’t then you will be punished.”
