Manchester United are set to make their first offer for Rasmus Hojlund ‘soon’ amid fears Paris Saint-Germain could hijack the deal, according to reports.

United are desperate to sign a new striker and after pulling out of the race to sign Harry Kane, the Red Devils identified Atalanta star Hojlund as their first choice.

The 20-year-old – a boyhood United fan – has already agreed personal terms with United but Italian side Atalanta want an excessive £86m to part with the Denmark international.

United will not pay that much for the Dane but they will sanction departures in order to raise funds to bid for Hojlund, as Erik ten Hag considers him a vital next move in his Old Trafford overhaul.

The latest reports now indicate that United will soon launch an opening offer as they want to avoid PSG hijacking the move – as the French club ‘keep speaking’ with the player’s camp.

Atalanta have already turned down suggestions from United that players could move in the opposite direction to bring down the club’s asking price for Hojlund.

United are reportedly willing to offer the likes of Donny van de Beek and Amad Diallo on loan in order to reduce his price tag.

Hojlund moved to Atalanta last summer, conjuring up 16 goals and seven assists across 42 games in the 2022-23 season.

PSG are keen to bring him to the Parc des Princes – with the French champions undergoing a summer rebuild.

Superstar striker Kylian Mbappe has informed PSG he will not be extending his contract, a move that will likely prompt them to sell him this summer.
