Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes ‘will snub Gary Neville’ in setback for Sky Sports

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes is set to blank Gary Neville next season after refusing to bury the hatchet with the Red Devils legend, according to reports. Fernandes was recently given the captain’s armband on a permanent basis after Harry Maguire was stripped of the honour following his slide down Erik ten Hag’s defensive pecking order.

Fernandes will naturally be expected to conduct more interviews than before in his new role as captain, although it seems that Neville could be left frustrated if he is tasked with speaking to the United ace on Sky Sports. He will be blanked by Fernandes over the course of next season, according to The Sun, as a result of his damning comments after last season’s heavy defeat at Liverpool.

Neville singled out Fernandes for some particularly scathing criticism after the midfielder gestured to the away dugout in frustration on a number of occasions, while at other moments he simply trudged around the pitch as the clock ticked down at Anfield.

“The second half has been an absolute disgrace, a shambles,” fumed Neville at the time. “They have not been epitomised more than Bruno Fernandes, who has been embarrassing, a shambles, in this game. Bruno Fernandes is stood in the centre circle with his arms raised saying ‘why isn’t it me coming off?’. Honestly, I think some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace.”

Fernandes has certainly not forgotten about Neville’s comments, which were made over four months ago, and is reportedly set to snub the Sky Sports pundit next season as a result of his tightly-held grudge. The 28-year-old fired a dig at Neville shortly after United’s humiliating seven-goal defeat at the hands of Liverpool and does not appear to be willing to forgive him just yet, although it remains to be seen if this will change over the coming months.

“I kind of understand behind that but I can’t control that,” said Fernandes when quizzed on the media criticism aimed in his direction. “We all know pundits have to say something to keep their work. The more bad things they say, the more work they get, sometimes.

“We all have to live with that but for me, it’s about my team-mates being okay with that. Whenever they are not, I would like them to tell me so I can calm myself down. Most of the things that were said after that game were complete lies. Because I waved my arms, they [assumed] that I said something that I didn’t say.

“The pundits always want to say something to get attention and credit from the people outside. Sometimes they say something to say.”
