David de Gea has explained why Erik ten Hag was ‘angry’ after Manchester United’s routine Premier League win over Bournemouth.

The Red Devils extended their winning run to six games with a 3-0 victory against relegation-battlers Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Casemiro, who has thrived at Old Trafford following his move from Real Madrid last summer, opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Luke Shaw doubled Manchester United’s lead shortly after the break and Marcus Rashford added a third late on to score in three successive home league games for the first time.

Despite the comfortable nature of the win, De Gea says Ten Hag was ‘a bit angry’ with how many chances his United team conceded and felt United were ‘too open’ in the second half.

‘He was happy with the clean sheet but at the same time he was a bit angry,’ Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper said. ‘We conceded too many chances and we were too open at the end of the game, so he was a bit angry.

‘He [Ten Hag] is doing well. I say before, he puts every player in the same direction and we feel like a proper team. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to play for this club and that’s massive.

‘He brought a great spirit to the team, we are playing really well and this is the way we have to show and keep the momentum as well.’

Manchester United’s recent run has seen them climb to fourth in the Premier League. Ten Hag’s side face struggling Everton in the FA Cup on Friday night before taking on League One outfit Charlton in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

De Gea, meanwhile, has been at United since 2011 and says he wants to remain at Old Trafford despite his current contract expiring in June.

‘I hope [to stay for the rest of my career],’ the Spaniard said. ‘I was saying this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.’
