Mario Chalmers has had plenty to say about his former teammate LeBron James over the years, not all of it good.

One of the former Miami Heat guard’s latest comments about James is confusing fans more than anything else. In an interview with Betway, Chalmers appeared to make contradictory statements on LeBron’s “GOAT” status.

“I’m not talking trash. I feel like Bron is the greatest basketball player to ever play this game, but he’s just not my GOAT. And that’s a whole different subject,” Chalmers said.

Chalmers did go on to explain his reasoning, saying it had to do with James’ willingness to take the last shot compared to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

“It’s not because I don’t like my little Bron to death, but it’s just me for my GOAT, I want my GOAT to live and die with that shot,” he said. “And with Jordan and Kobe, you know they’re taking that last shot every time. Me, I want to take the last shot. Bron? Bron’s going to make the right basketball play. And there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s nothing bad about that. It’s just a personal opinion. This is not what I want my GOAT to do. I want my GOAT to shoot it no matter if I’m on the team or not. So that’s just me, that’s just my personal opinion.”

Chalmers is certainly entitled to his opinion, but the original part of his quote about LeBron being the greatest player but not the “GOAT” is making some scratch their heads.

“What does this even mean?” one commenter asked.

“I wish LeBron played with Gabe Vincent instead of this dweeb,” another person wrote.

“You can tell Mario Chalmers is a hard headed person lol. I see why they was always yellin’ at him,” a third person joked.

“The only way you can call LeBron NOT the goat is to not make sense. What Mario says here directly contradicts logic,” a fourth person chimed in.

Chalmers, who played in the NBA from 2008-18, was LeBron’s teammate for his four seasons in Miami, during which the Heat played in the NBA Finals four times and won two championships.
