Hailed as ‘captain cool’ for his astute captaincy moves and calm demeanour on the cricket pitch, Dhoni has commanded a massive business empire. The Jharkhand cricketer has ventured into several projects, including stakes in sports leagues, cricket academies, and a film production house amongst many others.
Dhoni continues to be one of the biggest taxpayers in his state and the top taxpaying cricketer in the country, surpassing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The former India player, as per the Income Tax Department, paid a humongous amount in income tax in the previous fiscal year. Dhoni filed a sum of Rs 38 crore in taxes for the FY 2022-23, which ended on March 31 in 2023.
The 42-year-old cricketer gets a salary of around Rs 12 crore from Chennai Super Kings from his annual contract. However, an old job appointment letter for Dhoni has surfaced on social media and it is getting viral like anything.
In the job appointment letter from India Cements, the parent company of Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has been offered the position of ‘vice president’ back in 2012.
The appointment letter is of no surprise, but it is the salary which the legendary India captain – who had by then won the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2010 and 2011 IPL trophies for CSK – shocked many. ‘There is hardly any romance, men come in that comfort zone’: Wife Sakshi on her chemistry with MS Dhoni
The appointment letter – which has Dhoni’s signature on it – has been shared by former IPL commissioner Lalit Kumar Modi. As per the appointment letter, the legendary cricketer had a monthly salary of INR 43,000 as India Cements’ vice-president.
“It seems only in #india #contempt after contempt continues by the #old #guards of @bcci – How? My best guess is #northblock. But most #puzzling is this #employment #contract of #MSD – WHY ? he earns 100’s of crores a year will he #agree to be #SRINI’S #employee. bet there are many such contracts,” wrote Lalit Kumar Modi in his Instagram post.
Dhoni led CSK to their record-equalling fifth IPL trophy in the 2023 season when his team defeated Gujarat Titans in a nail-biting last-ball thriller in the final. While the 42-year-old failed to leave a mark with the bat in the final, Dhoni claimed he wishes to play one more season for CSK and might return in IPL 2025.
