Country music fans are in for a treat next year with Australian music icon Kasey Chambers to headline a free concert at the home of the Fremantle Dockers.
The South Australian-raised country queen is the first interstate artist to headline the City of Cockburn’s annual free community concert since Ross Wilson — the original lead singer and co-founder of Daddy Cool — wowed a big crowd at Victor George Kailis Oval back in 2020.
Still best known for her 2002 chart-topper Not Pretty Enough and her rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours, which became the theme song for the 2003 Rugby World Cup, Chambers’ decorated music career across four decades has yielded 12 solo albums and 14 ARIA awards.
Chambers, who was the youngest female to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, is now 46 and a mother of three.
She and her band will perform at Cockburn’s free event on Saturday, February 4 supported supported by local act Scarlet’s Way, a West Australian roots-inspired duo.
Both will be winging their way west after performing at the famous Tamworth Country Music Festival in January, with Chambers also set to play both Esperance and Albany in January for her acoustic and intimate tour.
In past years the Cockburn community event has featured a number of homegrown acts including Stella Donnelly, Adrian Dzvuke and San Cisco as well as celebrated stars like Daryl Braithwaite and Jessica Mauboy.
The concert will be staged at the Dockers Football Club training ground at Victor George Kailis Oval from 7-10pm.
