MANILA, Philippines—Adamson stunned UAAP Season 85 finalist University of the Philippines, 62-53, in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup Friday at Filoil EcoOil Center in San Juan.

Coach Nash Racela, however, downplayed the Adamson win, putting a premium on progress in preseason play.

“We’re not really looking at the results. What’s important is our game-to-game improvement and adjustment. That’s already an achievement for us,” said Racela in Filipino as they climbed to 2-3 in Group 2.

Reyland Torres scored 15 points for the Fighting Maroons, who crashed to a 3-1 record.

Letran, meanwhile, outlasted Jose Rizal University, 79-68, in an all-NCAA affair in Group 1.

Kurt Reyson extended his string of stellar outings with 21 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Knights. Kobe Monje also chipped in 14 as Letran rose to a 2-1 card.

Shawn Argente spearheaded the Heavy Bombers’ offense with 19 points and five assists as they fell to a 1-2 card.

Far Eastern University zoomed past University of the East, 79-67, behind Cholo Anonuevo’s all-around game.

Anonuevo tallied 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks for the Tamaraws (1-2) to make up for the absences of star guards LJay Gonzales and Royce Alforque.

Rey Remogat continued to show promise with 23 points but the Red Warriors slipped to a 2-2 card.

Emilio Aguinaldo College welcomed Arellano in the preseason with a dominant 94-80 win.

The Generals (1-2) turned to Ralph Robin and JP Maguliano for the win as they scored 23 and 12, respectively.

The Chiefs drew 14 points from Yuan Camay.
