The 2022-23 NBA season ended with the Denver Nuggets lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time, and the 2023-24 season will begin with the Nuggets receiving their championship rings.
The Nuggets, in line with tradition, will reportedly participate in the NBA’s opening night as defending champions.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Nuggets will host the Los Angeles Lakers in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals.
The second game of the opening night doubleheader will feature the new-look Phoenix Suns heading to the Bay to face the Golden State Warriors.

The Suns traded Chris Paul to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Bradley Beal, and then the Wizards traded Paul to the Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole.
Fans who were looking forward to Paul getting a chance to play against his old team won’t have to wait to see him in action against the Suns.
The Lakers and the Nuggets played a very competitive series in the Western Conference Finals despite the Nuggets winning in a four-game sweep. Opening night will kick off LeBron James’ 21st NBA season as he looks to win his fifth championship.
The NBA generally goes with one game in the East and one in the West for opening night, but it appears that this year will feature four Western Conference teams.
