Netflix has premiered, renewed, and started shooting new episodes of a hit series in the 3 months since ‘Shadow and Bone’ went dark

Netflix’s recent TUDUM event was largely deemed as an underwhelming disappointment, but one of the most egregious sins committed by the annual showcase was the complete radio silence regarding a potential season 3 of Shadow and Bone.

The second run of episodes premiered all the way on March 16, and ever since then fans have been left waiting on tenterhooks to discover its fate. They’ve even taken matters into their own hands to try and artificially inflate the viewing figures, but so far the streaming service hasn’t offered so much as a shred of hope that the GrishaVerse will return to screens at any point in the near future, if at all.

Things have gotten even more frustrating after Netflix dished out a spate of rapid-fire renewals over the last couple of weeks, but the case of The Diplomat may be the most galling of all. The political thriller premiered on April 20, was renewed on May 1, and is already in production on its second season less than two months after first being added to the content library.

If a glossy series with what’s clearly a decent-sized budget can premiere, be renewed, and then kick off shooting in less time than it takes for Netflix to even mention Shadow and Bone out loud, then it becomes increasingly easy to understand why panic has long since set in amongst the fantasy fanatics who’ve grown accustomed to the company axing dozens upon dozens of originals set in the same genre space.

Like Rocky Balboa said, though, it ain’t over ’till it’s over.
