Netflix Starts Testing Cloud Gaming On TVs

0

Netflix is now doing public beta tests for its cloud gaming feature, bringing its games to selected TVs and connected TV devices as well as web browsers. The limited beta will only be rolled out to a small number of users for now, with some subscribers in the UK and Canada being the first batch of testers.

The initial test will only involve two games, namely Oxenfree from Night School Studio and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game. Supported devices for this test include Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN. According to the streaming giant, more devices will be added later on.

Additionally, selected users on PCs and Macs are also able to play the cloud-streamed games on supported browsers. Testers playing on TVs can use the recently-released controller app that turns your phone into a game controller while those on computers can just use a mouse and keyboard.

Earlier this year, Netflix laid out its big plans for its gaming catalogue. By March, it had released 55 titles since 2021, with 40 more games scheduled for release in 2023. VP of game development Mike Verdu mentioned the company’s development of cloud gaming and now it seems that the service is closer to becoming widely available.
