One of the biggest spaceships in the Star Wars universe is now available in a surprisingly affordable new set from Lego.

Considering Lego has been making Star Wars sets for over 20 years now almost all the most recognisable ships (and some of the less recognisable ones) have been made into models multiple times before.

There’s only ever been one Super Star Destroyer though, the giant-sized capital ship named the Executor, that was heavily featured in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The older set came out back in 2011, when it cost hundreds of pounds and was made up of over 3,100 Lego pieces. It’s out of print now and so Lego has produced a new model that’s much smaller, much cheaper, and yet just as cool.

Because this is a set aimed more at adults there aren’t any play features as such but you can attach two normal sized Star Destroyers to it, so they seem to fly alongside it and help give it a sense of scale.

The set is also part of ongoing celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, with a special anniversary plaque you can choose to add to the display (or not, it’s Lego so it’s up to you).

Cost is relative with Lego but while cheap compared to the original, and many other Star Wars sets, the new Super Star Destroyer will still set you back £59.99 for 630 Lego pieces.

Not only was the original expensive, it was also huge and is still one of the longest Lego sets ever made, whereas the new version is a more convenient 43cm long.

It’s not out until May 1, when it’ll be part of the annual May the Fourth celebrations, but unusually it’s available for pre-order now from the Lego website, so you can make sure you get yours on day one.
