On court food delivery guy turns out to be a prank

Well, that viral moment of an Uber Eats driver delivering food at the Duquesne-Loyola Chicago game turned out to be fake.

Something fun on the internet turned out to be fake. Which, you know, shouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Unfortunately for folks who love college sports, this time that something fun that turned out to be fake is directly related to college basketball.

Wednesday evening, in the midst of a game between Loyola Chicago and Duquesne, someone appearing to be an Uber Eats food delivery driver somehow wandered out onto the basketball court while supposedly searching for the destination for an order of food.

But, as it turns out, that’s not real.

Uber Eats food delivery at Duquesne-Loyola Chicago game was actually just a prank

This isn’t going to be the end of the world. It’s a little disappointing, sure, but this event sure seemed fishy from the start. First and foremost, who is paying for food delivery to a basketball game?

Plus, there’s this. How does this even work if someone tried it?

That said, that won’t stop services like Uber Eats and Door Dash from being grateful for the unexpected bit of free publicity last night.

They won’t care that these sorts of food delivery shenanigans were fabricated for retweets and likes (and news coverage and blog posts like this), there is still a benefit for them at some point along the way.

As long as we don’t see copycats (or Super Bowl-related advertising inspired by this), then we can all just laugh about how this happened, send the video to folks in our group chat, and ultimately just move on, right?
