Original Magcon Stars: Where Are the Social Media Stars Now?

Social media fans know that, back in the day, MAGCON was the way to meet all your favorite influencers. The now-iconic meet and greet convention first launched in 2013 and gave fans inside access to former Vine stars-turned-Hollywood elite, including Aaron Carpenter, Jack Johnson, Jack Gilinsky, Cameron Dallas, Shawn Mendes and Nash Grier, among others.

Following their success on social media, the boys — and one girl, Mahogany Lox — would hit the road on tours around the country and attend fan conventions, meet and greets and performances where they were able to get face-time with their millions of followers. A behind-the-scenes look at the entire operation was filmed for the Netflix series Chasing Cameron, which hit the streaming service in December 2016.

“I want to build something where these kids have a place to go that’s safe, that’s fair, that’s reasonable, and that’s actually in their favor,” Cameron told Teen Vogue about MAGCON in May 2016. “That’s one of my biggest missions.”

He continued at the time, “I’m working on bridging the gap between mainstream famous and internet famous. They’re two different things, but eventually, social media will be the way to become a celebrity.”

In 2014, a few members left the group, but MAGCON didn’t officially come to an end until 2017. Over the years, the members have gone to have major careers in the music industry, acting world and even on Broadway. Thanks to social media, these celebs got their start, but, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they’re gearing up for a reunion any time soon.

Arguably the biggest success story to come out of the group of early influencers is Shawn and his massive music career. The “In My Blood” singer has released four albums over the years and toured the world.

“It was a really cool, intimate thing with us and our fans on Vine. Ever since the beginning of that, things have been blowing up for all of us,” the Canada native said of MAGCON during a July 2014 interview with Entertainment Weekly.

But, Shawn’s not the only former MAGCON member to have made a name for himself in Hollywood since gaining fame online. Some have kicked off TV careers, music careers and even continued their reign as internet superstars on TikTok — which has since become synonymous with Vine in the social media world. Scroll through the gallery to see what your favorite original Magcon members are up to now.
