Plans for housing yards from Avengers film studio out for consultation

Up to 800 new homes alongside a hotel and retail space could be created a stone’s throw from an Edinburgh film studio used in the Marvel franchise.

Forth Ports plan to regenerate the 10-acre site at Leith waterfront into a ‘vibrant new quarter,’ according to an application notice submitted to the capital’s local authority.

The development, known as Harbour 31, will sit yards from the ‘FirstStage Studios’ complex – partially developed by Jason Connery, son of James Bond star Sir Sean.

The former wave plant – which sits at the end of Edinburgh’s long-running tram extension project – was used as a filming location for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in 2017 before being officially converted into the production facility last year.

A hotel, workspaces and leisure facilities are also expected to form part of the development, which is due to be put out for consultation late next month.

Carole Cran, chief financial officer at Forth Ports, said: “At Harbour 31 we plan to create a vibrant new quarter to live and work, as new creative and green jobs come to Leith.

“With the option to walk to work or an easy tram ride into the city centre, this new neighbourhood will be a focal point of Leith’s continued regeneration.”

An online public consultation will take place on Thursday, June 23 from 3pm–7pm before an official planning application is submitted to planning chiefs.
