Scottish traffic police looked stunned when they found an alpaca peering out a car window during a routine check.

The black estate car was travelling on the A84, Craigforth, Stirling, on Monday when it was stopped for an inspection.

Various vehicles defects were discovered along with some ‘unusual passengers’, said Fourth Valley Police in a Twitter post.

‘Some of those engaged were more appreciative of our Road Safety advice than others!,’ said the post.

The roadside check happened on the morning of June 6, officers said.

‘Sorry officer…alpaca in the boot next time…’, joked one Twitter used under the post.

‘Don’t be allama’d,’ said another.
