Aston Villa have joined Arsenal and Newcastle in the race to sign Youri Tielemans, according to reports.

On Monday, Leicester confirmed that Tielemans, along with six other players, will leave on a free this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Caglar Soyuncu, who is set to join Atletico Madrid, Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy, Ryan Bertrand, Ayoze Perez and Tete will all depart the King Power.

The Foxes also announced that captain Jonny Evans remains in discussions over his future, while they have also exercised the option to extend Hamza Choudhury’s contract to 2024.

Tielemans spent four-and-a-half years with Leicester and was key to helping the club finish fifth in back-to-back seasons under Brendan Rodgers, and most memorably scored the winning goal in the 2021 FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Though the 26-year-old’s form has dipped somewhat over the past two seasons, he remains highly-rated and highly sought after with a number of clubs across Europe keen.

Within England, Arsenal have been consistently linked with the Belgium international though West Ham’s Declan Rice is now their main focus, while Newcastle are also in the running and can offer Champions League football.

Tottenham have also been linked but it remains to be seen what incoming manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans are, while Manchester United have been interested in the past but are now working on a deal for Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

But The Athletic report that Villa are now in the frame to sign Tielemans and are expected to make an approach for him soon, with Unai Emery keen on signing a midfielder having missed out on one in January.

The former Arsenal manager has worked wonders at Villa Park since replacing Steven Gerrard last October, taking the club from a relegation fight to European qualification.

Tielemans had previously penned a farewell to Leicester fans, writing: ‘From the first day I set foot on this ground, your warmth and passion embraced me. Victory and triumph, love, hope and even defeat.

‘We’ve shared many special moments together. I am forever grateful for your unwavering support. Thank you to Khun Top, the board, the staff, the players and fans for having given me and my family a home.’
