Punk trio The Aquadolls will celebrate its new album with a hometown show

It’s been a busy spring for the Los Angeles-based indie-punk group The Aquadolls.

Since early April, the all-female trio has been out on the Spring Fling Tour, which brings them back home in time to perform a record release show for their third album, “Charmed,” at The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angles on Friday, June 2.

“This is the first album we’ve written all three of us together. So it has a nice piece of a little bit of all of us,” The Aquadolls vocalist-guitarist Melissa Brooks said during a recent interview.

The Aquadolls started as a solo bedroom project for Brooks a decade ago. After releasing her first EP, “Free,” in 2012, she dropped The Aquadolls debut full length, “Stoked on You,” a year later. She cycled through several musicians before finding bassist Keilah Nina and drummer Jacqueline Proctor to complete the lineup and the trio released their sophomore album, “The Dream Deception,” in 2018.

Since then, the band has performed alongside acts like Pennywise and Jimmy Eat World, and have been on the bill for major festivals including Lollapalooza, Warped Tour and a pair of appearances at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in Dana Point. Last summer, they were on the road with Incubus and Sublime with Rome.

Lyrically, “Charmed” touches on themes of love, relationships and self-acceptance while sonically melding elements of early rock harmonies with guitar-driven ’90s grunge.

“There are a lot of songs that have to do with love, whether it’s platonic love, friendship love, romantic love, breaking up, self-love and it’s fun, upbeat and we hope that somebody finds a little piece of themselves within any of the songs,” Brooks said.

“You’ll hear our O.G. roots, but then we have a lot of rock and roll songs,” Proctor added.
