Remove ‘awful urine smell’ from toilets with 29p ‘natural odour neutraliser’

Dealing with a urine smell from the toilet is normal, but that doesn’t mean households have to endure a nasty-smelling bathroom.

As long as households know how to properly clean their toilet and bathroom, urine odours will be a thing of the past.

Mrs Hinch fans revealed that white vinegar is all that’s needed to remove these odours after one woman took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page asking for advice.

Kerry Ryan wrote: “Can anyone help me I’ve tried everything to get rid of the awful urine smell in my loo?

“I’ve tried bicarbonate of soda, shaving foam, bleach, different toilet cleaners, toilet powder but nothing is shifting it.”

Although people pee in the bathroom all the time, a clean one shouldn’t have that tell-tale urine smell.

One method that Kerry didn’t test out and that group members suggested, was to use white vinegar in the toilet.

Tara Lawson advised: “Put vinegar in the holding tank and in the bowl, let sit overnight, and at the smell will be gone by morning.”

Gail Campbell suggested: “Try white vinegar. We used this when we were training puppies and seemed to do the job.

Ivanna Bender said: “White vinegar. It’s the natural opposite of urine on the table of elements.

“It is a natural odour neutraliser as well. You’ll find the smell will be gone after 10 minutes.”

Dan Johnson wrote: “I had this same issue too, it was driving me mad. I’ve just tried white vinegar last night and there’s no longer any bad smell.”

Sarah Lambert commented: “Use white vinegar but make sure you’re letting it sit. We all have a tendency to spray and wipe within a few minutes. It needs to sit for some time to actually work the way it should.”

Most homes have white vinegar in their cupboard, but if they don’t a bottle of it can be picked up from local supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda for 29p.

It’s organic and affordable, and because it’s a mild acid, it won’t harm your fingers or damage the toilet.

Vinegar kills bacteria and its distinct aroma will cover up that pee smell nicely.

Use undiluted white vinegar in a spray bottle and point it directly in the toilet bowl at the seat. Let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then wipe it off.
