While Rihanna and A$AP Rocky chose to skip the red carpet at the annual Golden Globes tonight, they still were undeniably the best dressed couple. Sitting together at their table, Rihanna—who was up for Best Original Song for her Black Panther single, “Lift Me Up”against the likes of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga—and Rocky both opted for black ensembles. Though on them, the classic formula didn’t feel at all boring or snoozy. Instead, it felt incredibly fresh and current.
Rihanna’s take on formal wear tonight included a custom Schiaparelli look designed by Daniel Roseberry. The velvety, black strapless gown was punctuated with an oversized cape detail at the back and a sweeping train. The subtle colourway—though in an extreme silhouette!—allowed for her blinding Cartier earrings and 18-karat white gold and diamond choker to take the spotlight. (She does have a song called “Diamonds,” lest we forget.) She wore her hair twisted up into a sleek up’do, with a soft, glowing makeup palette.
Rocky, meanwhile, sported a traditional black suit with satin lapels, complete with a white button-up shirt and slim black tie. His diamond earrings complemented her showstopping necklace—because with these two, it’s always a coordinated affair.
RiRi was captured giggling beside her beau in the audience as she received random acknowledgements from host Jerrod Carmichael who made one of the evening’s most talked-about remarks when he commented on Rihanna’s long-awaited ninth album which has seen fans all over social media beg her to hurry up. He said: “You know what? Honestly only because I see Rihanna is here, and I’m going to say something very controversial,” said Jerrod, adding: “I will actually get in trouble for this.”
He then exclaimed: “Rihanna, you take all the time you want on that album, girl! Don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing!”
After the ceremony, the loved-up couple posed for photos backstage and mingled with award winners like Angela Bassett.
Although she may have lost out to the viral track “Naatu Naatu” from the film RRR, there was one award she and Rocky definitely won: best dressed couple. Now that they’re busy parents, it’s even more admirable that they continue to link up on their fashion choices. Talk about the coolest parents’ night out *ever.
