Ryan Reynolds admission shows what Blake Lively and family think of Wrexham

The wife and daughters of Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds have expressed the same passion as their dad for the newly-promoted club. The Canadian has earned a reputation for asking some players for their shirts after games and even taking chunks from the pitch inside the Racecourse Ground.

During an appearance on the RobRyanRed – Wrexham AFC podcast alongside Rob McElhenney, the Deadpool star revealed wife Black Lively and his daughters are behind the requests. “Blake and the girls are the engine for this,” Reynolds revealed.

“The girls always remind me ‘Dad, grab some of the pitch when you walk across it again’, but I also recognise that the Racecourse Ground is in certain senses a holy ground. So I like to bring a piece of that home every time.

“I don’t think I’m building a man cave at this point, a Wrexham man cave, at this point it’s just my house. That stuff is going wherever I choose, Wrexham is one of the prides of my life.”

The acting duo’s love affair with Wrexham has continued to grow since they took ownership of the club in 2021. They occasionally bring their families over to Wales and have both brought them to games at the Racecourse Ground.

This past season marked their greatest achievement as Wrexham owners when the side secured promotion to the Football League for the first time since 2008. Wrexham ended the campaign with 111 points and claimed automatic promotion by winning the National League trophy.

The achievement sparked wild celebrations on the pitch, which featured Reynolds and his family, in addition to a spectacular trophy parade through the Welsh town. Reynolds and McElhenney are thoroughly enjoying their time with the club and have stressed they ‘will not get bored’, and are open to future outside investment in the club.

“I find it fascinating there are people who assume this could ever be boring in any stretch of the imagination,” McElhenney told the Fearless in Devotion podcast. “The things we have done and felt in the last two-and-a-half years just don’t exist in our worlds – or any world that I can think of.

“So getting bored would never be on the list of things that would happen. But I also think about any cynicism or criticism that we might get, that is simply by nature just not creative in any way or helpful in any way, is generally just a reflection of how someone is feeling about themselves or something they may have gone through in their life.

“So if people have opinions – which they’re very much entitled to have – they can keep them to themselves or put them out into the world but it’s got no bearing on the way that I look at things.”
