Sadie Sink chopped her long hair off into a bob

Sadie Sink may be best known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, but her long red hair is almost as famous. It literally even has its own fan base.

So, news that Sadie sliced her waist-length hair off into a bob above her shoulders has sent her followers into a tailspin and sparked the hashtag #sadiesinknewhair on TikTok (where it currently has over 1.7 million views).

Sadie was first seen with the new cut when she performed with some friend’s at the Bowery Electric in New York on 27 April. Then Croatia Airlines posted a pic of the actress flying with them while sporting her new bob a few days later on 30th April.

What’s suss though, is that even though Sadie cut her hair a couple of weeks ago, she still hasn’t publicly debuted it on social media or at any public events. And, given that the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is due to start filming next month, fans are wondering what this could mean…

One TikTok user, @seditmbv posted a video with Sadie’s new hair and the caption “the hair ???? ST5 spoiler??”

While another, @noahschnapp_st.s5 wrote “have you seen that Sadie Sink has a new hairstyle?? If she cut off her hair, does that mean she won’t be in season 5? after all, they can’t change their hairstyle. Max won’t be alive?”

While wigs can be used for consistency and ease, Sadie’s co-star Noah Schnapp who plays Will in the series previously spoke about the commitment the actors have to make to certain hairstyles. He called his bowl cut “one of the worst,” while appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I can’t begin to explain. I literally ask them all the time, ‘Why doesn’t Will, maybe he shaves his head?’,” the actor said before asking: “but really, did everyone have that haircut in the ’80s? Who would choose to have that haircut?”

Sleuth-like fans have suggested that Sadie’s hair chop could be something to do with the time jump that the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, confirmed would happen at some point in the final series since the drastic hair change could help emphasise the skip forward in time.

Others in TikTok comments assumed her latest hairstyle is a personal choice that won’t make a difference to Stranger Things at all. “Bro she about to be wearing a wig for season 5,” one said.

Whatever the reason, we’re very much here for this new shorter era for Sadie Sink. Summer bob goals.
