Seann William Scott Would ‘Love’ to Reunite With Ashton Kutcher for Dude, Where’s My Car? Sequel

Is it time for a Dude, Where’s My Car? sequel? Released in the year 2000, Dude, Where’s My Car? was a stoner comedy written by Philip Stark and directed by Danny Leiner. It starred Seann William Scott and Ashton Kutcher as to best pals who come to after blacking out from partying the night before, only to discover that their vehicle is nowhere to be found. On a mission to find the missing car, the pair come across one bizarre interaction after another with a unique cast of supporting characters.

The movie, which also starred Kristy Swanson, Jennifer Garner, and Marla Sokoloff, was not welcomed by critics with open arms. Even so, many fans have fond memories of the film and it has a cult following. Dude, Where’s My Car? was also a big hit at the box office, pulling in over $100 million on a budget of $13 million. With nostalgia only making the film more popular in recent years, a sequel is not outside the realm of possibility.

This was addressed in a new interview with Scott from ScreenRant. While Scott says he’d be up for reuniting with Kutcher for the potential sequel, he clarifies that no formal talks on Dude, Where’s My Car? have actually happened. He also notes how Conan O’Brien has long been joking about how they should do a sequel called Seriously, Dude, Where’s My Car?, and Scott says how that title alone was all the motivation he needed to want to make the movie. From the interview:

“No, we’ve never talked about it. You know what, I always hear about it when I would do Conan, his show. He would always bring it up, he was like, ‘Guys, can you make that Seriously, Dude, Where’s My Car?’ I’m like, ‘We have to for you, man.’ But I think the title alone is hilarious enough to make the movie, but I would love to work with Ashton again. If there was a like a super funny, weird, f—-d up script, for sure. But yeah, I haven’t heard anything about it.”

Why Shouldn’t Dude, Where’s My Car? Get a Sequel?

As the unmade sequel is not in the works in any capacity, there are no story ideas that come to mind for Scott. But with the subject coming up, the actor goes on to share some ideas for where a new Dude, Where’s My Car? movie could go. Perhaps it could be as simple as the two characters reuniting decades later only to somehow wind up losing the car all over again. Scott explains:

“I haven’t thought about [a story], but like either exactly the same, or things have gone bad for them. Maybe my character got fat — not that that means bad things, you can be fat and have things go good for you. But just maybe it’s gone downhill for him in every way. I think that would be fun to see those two guys where it’s like, again, something happened, maybe it’s like they hadn’t seen each other in so long, and they’re at the reunion and they get super f—-d up again, and then are like, ‘Holy s–t, we lost the car,’ and it’s a whole new set, ‘What did we do? We have to retrace our steps.'”

If you want to go back and watch Dude, Where’s My Car?, you can currently find the film streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max).
