Selena Gomez’s Latest Manicure Is a Big Departure From Her Signature Aesthetic

0

First, she sent fans into a tizzy by tapping into the viral Barbiecore trend with a blonde wig, and now Selena Gomez is coming for Oppenheimer. The actor and superstar recently took to Instagram with some goth-inspired black nails, artfully distressed hair, and heavily kohl-rimmed eyes. Moving away from her usual polished ponytails, pristine lip gloss nails, and her signature feline flick, it was a marked departure from her signature aesthetic and a welcome opener for the candid carousel of “randemz” pics that ensued.

Selena is not the only A-lister to turn to the dark side with actors Lily Collins and Lucy Boynton channeling their inner goth respectively as they took to the red carpet; Lily with her vampy rouge noir lip, burnt orange eye, and intricate braided up-do and Lucy with her charcoal and grey smokey eye and glistening teardrop jewel.

Looking to try this moody, gothic trend? A macabre manicure is the perfect place to start. Just look at Olivia Rodrigo who debuted some bitten black nails on her angsty album cover for Guts. The key to this look is obviously its color: midnight black. And there are some currently great options out there — Sally Hansen’s Black to Black, Jinsoon’s Absolute Black, and Essie’s Licorice to name a few. Add to this bucket loads of attitude, lashings of kohl and you should be good to go.
