Simple 50p spray to avoid ironing clothes when travelling

Clothes like shirts, trousers and linen garments are prone to creases and wrinkles, especially when they’ve been folded up in a suitcase or bag.

Clothes get wrinkled because fabrics are made up of bonded molecules. When the molecules get wet or heated up, the bonds get broken.

Then, when they cool down, the bonds form into new shapes which causes wrinkles and creases.

The washing machine itself can also cause wrinkles and creases in clothes.

In the washing machine, clothes spin and get agitated pushing against the drum to remove as much water as possible.

During this process, clothes can become creased and wrinkled. With this in mind, an expert has spoken exclusively to Express.co.uk about avoiding creased clothes.

Shadmaan Kader an expert at Pound a metre has shared their top tips on how to avoid ironing clothes when travelling.

He told Express.co.uk: “Pack a small spray bottle and if you are travelling somewhere hot and you are on a budget fill it with water and spray the garment.

“Hang up outside and leave to air dry and the creases will fall out.”

Small spray bottles can be bought online or from pharmacies, beauty stores and supermarkets.

Boots Travel Spray Bottle costs £1.20, 2pcs Clear Oil Spray Bottle cost £1 from Shein (50p each) and Portable Travel Spray Bottle costs £1.69 from Amazon.

Most hotels will have ironing options available for those who need to remove creases from their clothes.

Travel irons are a great alternative but they can take up room in suitcases and for those travelling abroad, an adaptor may be necessary.
