0

Fredericksburg is one of the jewels of the Texas Hill Country. If you ask locals what has changed in the city over the last several years, they’ll likely point out the increase in visitors. It’s on the map now as one of the state’s beloved vacation destinations. And you don’t have to wait for the weekend to have a Fredericksburg getaway. In fact, if you plan to visit during the week, you can save on lodging and other experiences, and you can avoid the crowds.

The next question is how to best budget your time while you’re in Fredericksburg. Many people know about its wineries and fine restaurants, but each of these lesser-known joys is worth the visit by itself. Get a great head start on the fun by indulging in these experiences the next time you’re in Fredericksburg.

Try The Treats At Fischer & Wieser’s das Peach Haus

When you arrive at Fischer & Wieser’s das Peach Haus, you are likely to feel a bit like you stepped back in time with its charming rustic exterior. It offers a wide variety of unique jams and jellies made from fresh fruits picked in the region, and you can taste all the products created by Fischer & Wieser’s here. If you’re inspired by the tasty light bites, consider booking one of their popular cooking classes. Public and private wine tastings are also offered.

Savor Serene Relaxation At The Hill Country Herb Garden

With a spa, restaurant, and peaceful cottages to stay in, the Hill Country Herb Garden provides a luxurious retreat to Fredericksburg visitors. The spa treatments are created to give guests a relaxing and renewing experience. They can choose from massages, facials, waxing and body scrubs. Its onsite restaurant is the perfect spot for a meal before or after a treatment with its cheerful décor and sunny dining areas. It serves a variety of dishes including healthy fare like salads and a veggie sandwich.

The real highlight of the Hill Country Herb Garden is its cottages. All 14 cottages have special themes and décor that’s carefully curated for a restful stay. Every cottage has a front porch with rocking chairs and a swing where a complimentary, fresh breakfast is delivered every morning, and they happily accommodate special dietary needs.

Go On A Shopping Expedition On Main Street

Visitors come from all over Texas and beyond for the dynamic shopping experiences in Fredericksburg. In fact, the city’s been nicknamed “Shopping Heaven” for many great reasons. Main Street is the main hub, but special shops can be found throughout the city.

The Gallery at Vaudeville has unforgettable gifts even for those who are impossible to shop for, and Dogologie has treats for your canine companion that you probably haven’t seen anywhere else. With over 150 locally owned stores, there are many spots to browse and explore.

Immerse Yourself In History At The National Museum Of The Pacific War

The term “world-class museum” gets tossed around a little too often, but the term truly applies to Fredericksburg’s National Museum of the Pacific War. Through personal belongings, historic artifacts, preserved documents, art, and more, this museum effectively tells the human story of what it was like to be a part of World War II in the Pacific. It has permanent and temporary exhibits. Plan to spend at least a few hours here and book a tour to get the most from the visit.

Have A Picnic In the Town Square

While you’re in Fredericksburg, take some time to have a picnic and hang out in the town square that’s known as Marktplatz in celebration of the city’s German history. The centerpiece of the town square is the Vereins Kirche, a replica of a 19th-century German church that was once a focal point of Fredericksburg.

The town square is particularly beautiful during the holidays. The area is lit up with holiday lights, and there’s a 10-minute presentation leading up to the lighting of Marktplatz every night from late November through December. It includes a lighted German pyramid that’s 26 feet tall and a massive Christmas tree.

Taste Mouth-Watering Vegan Chocolates At Chocolat

When you step into Chocolat, it’s like you wander into a wonderland of sweet treats. And no chocolate lovers are left out. The store almost always makes vegan chocolates, but sometimes they sell out quickly. Lecia Duke, the president and founder of Chocolat by Quintessential Chocolates Co., Inc. says that she is going to be focusing on always keeping at least a couple of vegan chocolates available.

There’s also a chocolate she makes that’s organic and low in sugar. She explained that Fortunato #4 is a 68% rare Peruvian chocolate that has only three ingredients: cacao, cocoa butter and cane sugar. It is vegan and organic, and it’s prepared in a small medallion. This chocolate is used in their “NoLo Keto” chocolates that have either no sugar or a low amount of sugar in them. Those flavors include Dark Chocolate Peppermint, Espresso Bar, Raspberry Cheesecake, Blueberry Cacao, and Walnut Cardamom Orange. There are also vegan Butter Roasted Pecan and Butter Roasted Almond flavors that are roasted in cashew butter and avocado oil.

If you’re lucky, you’ll find the vegan toffee in stock that’s made with cashew butter and enrobed in the Fortunato #4 chocolate. Also ask to see if there is a vegan Pralinosa Colette (open truffle) with almonds.
