Sixteen Candles star Carlin Glynn dead aged 83

Tony-Award winning star Carlin Glynn suffered from dementia and cancer ahead her death on July 13.

Her daughter, actress Mary Stuart Masterson, announced her death in a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

She said her mother “was the most graceful clumsy person you would ever meet”.

“Strong, smart, silly, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate and a deep listener.

“She was devoted to my father and to the enormous circle of students and collaborators who were considered her chosen family,” Mary added.

The actress also shared a photo of her mum from her younger years, along with one from her 80th birthday “before the worst of dementia and cancer took their toll.”

“She never lost her sense of joy or wonder. Rest In Peace, mommy.”

Mary has since been inundated with condolences from many of her followers.

Indira wrote: “Oh darling sending you so much love and remembering how much we spoke of your ma. What’s a beautiful stanza.”

Norbert Leo Butz added: “I’m so sorry Mary Stuart. I only met her a couple of times but her light was radiant. She was an incredible actor. Sending so much [love].”

Susan Fauman typed: “Oh friend. Thinking of you and knowing that there are all sorts of feels. Sending you love.”

Faith Ruggiero Barr commented: “Beautifully said. May she Rest in Peace. Thinking of your family and sending heartfelt condolences.”

Carlin was a Tony-award winning actress who earned her gong in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

She was voted 1979’s Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for portraying Mona Stangley in the original production.

The Broadway hit was written by her husband Peter Masterson, who died in 2018.

The actress also had roles on the big screen in Three Days of the Condor in 1975 and playing Brenda Baker in Sixteen Candles.

Other film credits include her roles in Resurrection (1980), Continental Divide (1981), The Escape Artist (1982), Gardens of Stone (1987), Blood Red (1989), Night Game (1989), Convicts (1991), Judy Berlin (1999) and Whiskey School (2005).

Carlin was born in Cleveland, Ohio and later attended Mirabeau B. Lamar High School in Houston in Texas.

She is survived by Mary and her other children, Alexandra Masterson, and Peter Masterson, Jr.
